…And I’m Back!

Posted Jan 18 2012 5:30pm

I have done it! My first run back in about a month and it was PAIN FREE. Granted, I only did 1.28 miles , but that is 1.28 miles more than I was able to do before without any pain! I stretched and foam rolled before and did the same after.  Ask me how excited I am. I know this does not mean that I am magically better so I still plan on taking it mile by mile with slow increases over time. I also plan on keeping up with increasing my flexibility and strength. I really think getting back into the pool has helped as well. It felt so great to get outside and run today even if it was only for 9 minutes and 40 seconds. I have been sitting on a bike and/or an elliptical for too long and it is making me insane.

That said, I have had to successes this week and it’s only Wednesday. Yesterday I finally made it to 3000 yards! I had to rush through it since I was pressed for time but I did it. Here is what I did:

1200 (500 freestyle, 100 backstroke–2x)

2×500 pull (200 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 freestyle) 10 seconds rest between each

5×100 (odds freestyle, descend 1-3 and evens IM, descend 1-2) 10 seconds rest between each

300 kick (100 flutter, 100 dolphin on back, 100 flutter)

As you can see, the workout was mostly composed of longer swims but I got in everything I wanted to get done. I will swim again on Friday morning and I am hoping to end up at around 3200 yards. Any set ideas are welcome!

In other news, I am officially hosting my first ever Fitblog chat on March 13th. For those of you who are not familiar with the Fitblog chats on Twitter, you should definitely consider joining. They happen every Tuesday at 9pm eastern and all you have to do is add #fitblog to your tweet for it to be seen during the chat. The topics change week to week and they are always very interesting. Plus, you discover new bloggers and your own blog gets exposure to a whole new group of people. Check out the FitBlog Chats site for more information and to get on the list for emails. More details about the chat I will be moderating once we get close to March 13th.

I sincerely apologize for the lack of pictures and pretty things in today’s post. Unfortunately I could not find anything really that relevant or great to include. Don’t worry though, this blog will be overrun with pictures when I get back from Cancun. Prepare yourselves.

What exciting things have happened this week in your “training”? Anything new? Has anyone else moderated a Fitblog chat? If so, how was it? Any suggestions?
