Well, the weather reports were right for a change.  We have a snow day on our hands!  It looks really beautiful out there right now.

I tried to sleep in, but unfortunately, my body decided to wake up at 6 am.   I was ready to be up in the gym workin’ on my fitness!

There is a gym at the clubhouse in my neighborhood, but I must confess that I have never used it!

Aside from the occasional class or visit to the yoga studio, I prefer to workout at home.

I do enjoy attending classes sometimes and used to love running.  I stopped running a few years ago though because as I mentioned here , I have Lupus, and running was a bit rough on my joints.

The real reason why I love working out at home is probably because I can blast Lionel Richie music throughout the house (yes, I have a problem).

I’ve also been known to pretend that I am Britney Spears when I am doing a dance workout- the “Oops, I Did It Again” Britney though…not the “I’m shaving my head and smashing a car with an umbrella” Britney.

One of my very favorite workouts is Jari Love: Get Extremely Ripped 1000 .

I decided to try her DVDs after reading about her on Tina’s blog , and I was immediately hooked.

Jari is very motivational and sweet, and her instructions are really easy to follow. I have to admit that she is often high on cheesiness…but I kind of like that being a cheeseball myself and all. :)

In this DVD, Jari and the other instructors went a little overboard with the self-tanner.  They look a little Jersey Shore (minus the Snooki poof).  The music is also…interesting…but that’s where the mute button and Lionel Richie on Rhapsody come into play. :)

Get Extremely Ripped 1000 is about 60 minutes in length.  You can choose from two 30 minute workouts.  Both workouts have 6 circuits consisting of cardio and weights.

Triceps Extension with Leg Abduction
Jacks (for some reason this move reminds me of Shelley Long in “Troop Beverly Hills” when she is doing “The Freddie”)

Dead Lift and Biceps

Pendulum Lunge

Alternating Lunge with Lateral Raises

One stellar thing about the DVD is that you can customize the workout you want on any particular day.  You can do both workouts when you’re in the mood for an hour long session, and you can also choose to do just the cardio portion or just the weights portion.  I love the options!

There’s also an 8 minute bonus segment consisting of planks, side planks, crunches, and push-ups.

The workout promises to deliver a significant calorie burn which is never a bad thing!  Some of the cardio moves are a bit silly, but that’s what makes it fun.  She even mocks some of the moves herself!

I’d definitely recommend this DVD if you want a fun mix of cardio and weights.

You can expect to see a workout DVD spotlight/review on this blog a few times a month.  I’m going to select ones from my personal library and sample some others from Netflix.
