The day that seemed so far away four years ago finally came yesterday.
[waiting to line up before the ceremony]
Graduation.
It still hasn’t really sunken in that high school is over. All the hard work, the struggles, the times when I thought I would never make it through…they all seem so far away now. I don’t even feel old enough to be graduating from high school! It feels like I am still a child in some ways. I think we spend so much time wishing to grow up faster, that when we actually get there it’s a bit overwhelming. I know it’s cliché but time really does fly. I seriously cannot even believe I am less than two months away from going to college, being on my own, and starting my life for real.
I am nervous, I am anxious…but above all I’m excited.
And yesterday’s graduation ceremony was just what I needed to cap off my high school experience.
It was short and sweet…but meaningful in many ways. Our class address was very well written, a memorial was included for one of our classmates that passed away freshman year, and our commencement speaker, White House Press Secretary Bill Burton (who is also a CHS alumni!) was inspiring.
I will let the pictures from the evening do the rest of the talking…
[Bill Burton giving the commencement address]
I did it. We did it. Congratulations to all my fellow grads out there!
And thank you to everyone who has helped me get to this point.
