Another year is drawing to a close and what a year it has been! I just had fun reading my 2010 Wrap-Up Post which I titled the “Year of Change.” At this time last year, I hadn’t yet launched Carrie on Vegan, I was still blogging from my first blog site, Love Healthy Living (that feels like ages ago!). I was also still adapting to the plant-based lifestyle and I hadn’t yet decided to finish the coursework to become a registered dietitian in addition to my MPH degree.
2011 has also been a year of change and growth for me. I continued along my vegan journey that has been so transformative for my health. I’m now enrolled in two universities to finish the courses of study I am pursuing and will finish both in the spring of 2013. I just recently joined Toastmasters , I continue to get healthier and I’ve become a bona fide yogi.
My trip to Vida Vegan Con in August was an incredible experience where I met other vegan bloggers and felt part of a wonderful, supportive community. I made new friends and met some role models including Jasmin of Our Hen House . I am lucky enough now to call Jasmin a friend and she is one of the smartest and motivated people I’ve ever met. If you haven’t yet already, please visit her site and discover the ground-breaking work she is doing with her partner, Mariann Sullivan.
I also had the privilege of writing a book review for Jasmin’s blog, you can read it here . My review of Dr. Fuhrman’s new book, Super Immunity, will be featured on Monday, January 1st, on the Our Hen House blog , so please check it out.
Also at Vida Vegan Con, I met JL of JL Goes Vegan . JL is a super-cool, super-smart lady who writes a great blog, I highly recommend it. I wrote a guest post for her blog in June titled “The Health Reasons for Going Vegan,” you can read it here .
While I was in Portland for the conference, I joined a side tour of Bob’s Red Mill that was informative and really fun. I even met Bob himself! You can read my post about the tour here .
In October, I had the pleasure of attending the World Veg Day Festival in San Francisco (read my post here ). The highlight of that trip was meeting (for the 2nd time!) Colleen Patrick-Goudreau. This time, I got the nerve to ask for a photo with her. Colleen was the one who introduced me to Dr. Fuhrman so I owe her a debt of gratitude.
On that note, the Holiday Challenge ends tomorrow! This year I lost two pounds which puts me that much closer to my goal weight. I had some setbacks including a recurrence of my hives, but overall I’m feeling full of energy, healthy and vibrant. 2012…bring it on!!!
