#14 Get My Own Christmas Tree

Posted Jan 07 2010 12:00am

I’ve lived on my own since I was 20, I FINALLY got my own tree 2 years ago (I’ll be 27 this year). A rinky dink 2ft PORCH tree that I bought at a hardware store. Everyone likes to make fun of lil Bernie (my tree). I soon realized, I live in a big enough place that I could get a decent tree, much to the dismay of my boyfriend. Having a tree, to me, is such an important part of the holidays. A huge tradition for my mother and I is to listen to christmas carols and decorate the tree. I only have 9 ornaments… so trimming my tree doesn’t even last a whole Bing Crosby song…

This is Bernie…and he’s wonderful.

We finally have the space, and I had NO idea how expensive fake trees were! over $160 for a TREE? I’m sure there are less expensive ones, but this is my TREE people, I want to be happy with it. My definition of JOY: coming home to your decorated and lit tree after a long hard day of work. Snuggling on the couch and falling asleep with the soft glow of the tree around you. I can’t get a real one, we have pets, and I already do enough picking up after them as it is. I dont want a kitty hide-a-house in my tree, nor do I want my dog to ruin it because she loves anything that has to do with outside.

I thought about buying a tree in January once all the sales hit…I haven’t been having much luck. ALAS, my mother to the rescue.  She GAVE me HER tree! She wanted a new one, and this one now has sentimental value! A tree-loom, if you will. I couldn’t have been happier if I got a free one from a store. A gift like this, means the WORLD to me! I can’t wait to set it up next year. So this will be one of the last resolutions I complete…I will update with photos of my new 6.5ft tree next Christmas time. Time flies, it will be here sooner than you think!

And that little monster on the corner with the glowing red eyes….thats Baby the Destroyer. She can’t wait till the tree is  up…or she’s waiting for dinner..either way, she’s pissed.

Tune in 11 months from now, to see a beautiful sentimental tree become part of my joyous celebration of the holidays!

This was 2009 Christmas, my mother and I decorated, and oddly enough, the only pictures we have of us decorating!

  So pretty!!! I <3 Christmas :)
