Last weekend, my friend Karen and I were raving about how much we love coconut oil (because that is what health obsessed people talk about, right?).  During our conversation, she asked for my thoughts on almond oil, and I thought that would make great material for a post.

(Thanks for the inspiration, Karen!)

I’ll get right down to it and let you know that I am definitely a fan of almond oil.  It has many amazing health and beauty benefits, and like coconut oil, it is extremely versatile and can be used externally or taken internally.

10 health and beauty benefits of almond oil

1.  Almond oil is extremely emollient, so it makes for a great massage oil.  As you probably know, massages are a wonderful way to relieve stress.

2.  It can be used in the bath along with some essential oils as a relaxing aromatherapy treatment.

3.  You can use it as a total body moisturizer since it is extremely hydrating and absorbs quickly.

4.  It is a very effective makeup remover.

5.  If you long for softer eyelashes, you can get them by applying almond oil to your lashes nightly.

6.  Almond oil can reduce stretch marks because of its ability to tighten skin and promote blood circulation.  Just massage it into the area where you have the marks for several minutes on a daily basis until they fade.

7.  It is ideal for rough, dry patches of skin (such as the skin on the elbows and feet) because it is very soothing and softening.

8.  Because it contains wrinkle-fighting vitamins, almond oil is an ideal anti-aging night time treatment.

9.  When taken orally, almond oil is an excellent source of dietary vitamin E- a key vitamin for keeping the immune system strong.

10.  The vitamin E in almond oil is also a powerful antioxidant that can protect the body from free radicals (which are linked to aging and inflammation).

If you want to incorporate almond oil into your diet, try one of these recipes:

You can also make this recipe  for a pampering body scrub!

Do you use almond oil externally and/or internally?  I’d love to hear your uses for it!
