I try to refrain from eating in between meals, but I can't help it. The lunchtime salad is great but it usually just isn't enough. I find myself getting hungry roughly around 3:30 every day. Does anyone have any healthy, tasty snack ideas that help get them through the afternoon slump?
This Just In!. I just got a cereal called "YogActive" at Wal-Mart. It was cheaper than other leading brands and there were several flavours. I bought the Yogurt and Real Kiwis flavour! There are 120 calories per 2/3 cup (no milk when used as a snack) and it contains 15% yogurt pearls with active lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria!
Yogurt or Cereal. when i'm at work, i work up a pretty nice appetite between meals... so what i usually end up doing, is either just munching on some cereal (one that has whole grain oats, barley, bran, some almonds, raisins, etc...); OR, i will just open up a thing of light yogurt, and throw in the cereal right into the yogurt cup... DELICIOUS (and pretty healthy i might add)!
Snacks 101. Whole grain water crackers, yogurt (with granola is one of my favorite breakfast treats), a banana, an apple with peanut butter, carrots and dried cranberries are some of my favorite snacks.
Nuts or Yogurt with Brewers Yeast. I am very active. I get up early and go to bed late. I am constantly on the go -- never a dull moment.
When 3 - 3:30 in the afternoon comes around, I feel like I need something energizing.
Sometimes, I close my eyes for about 10 - 20 minutes and rest a bit. When I get up, I have a handful of nuts (almonds, filberts, Brazil) or yogurt with brewers yeast. Then, there are times when I add all three in a bowl and eat 'em up.
Carrots are an excellent pick me up too, along with a seasonal apple -- yum!
Wheat grass or powder greens in water does the trick too.
I guess, it depends on what my body is telling me that it needs to make it through the rest of the day.
Of course, water and more water!
