Yoga Sculpt - Nourish Northwest

Posted Jan 03 2013 2:28pm
Good Morning and Happy Thursday!

I am super excited because tonight I teach my first Yoga Sculpt Class at   Nourish Northwest .  The class starts at 5:30pm and if any of you are locals, I would love to see you there.  I just got done doing my own yoga sculpt practice and feel toned and energized, yet zen too.

As I mentioned the other day, I am rethinking my approach to health and wellness this year and have come to believe that I need to treat my body with more kindness in 2013.  Although, I love to run, I have found that it is not producing the same results as it used to and I have decided to shorten my runs to get the full cardio blast benefits.  This will also be gentler on my joints and help me move the dial on the scale.   I have a hard time explaining this to my clients but sometimes "less, really is more."  I have a few clients (who I love) but that are addicted to exercise and do not allow their bodies to rest or heal.  You have gotta love the Type A personalities.  They are super fun to work with but also desperately need to slow down and balance their workouts for maximum results.   I do it too!  I love the rush that I get from running but also know that as I have become a more efficient runner the body adapts and burns fewer calories. Bummer.  Thus, I am always mixing up my clients workouts but have not been doing that for myself.  So in 2013, I am going to shake my body up by incorporating more Yoga Sculpt into my routine (lighter weights, more reps),  adding more resistance training with the TRX, adding short running bursts into my routine and meditating more.  It is good to have goals and I have written down a comprehensive plan for myself, just like I do for my clients.  Yay!

I hate to have to admit this since I am a Health Coach and Personal Trainer but I have been struggling with the creep of a few extra pounds and am feeling a bit thick through the thighs and belly and less than stellar about myself.  I believe my hormones are playing into this a bit as well as all the extra "goodies" during the holiday.  The good thing is that since I have been writing meal plans for my 21 Day Jump Start Webinar , I have also been getting my eating back on track.  Here I go again, but one of the things that I remind my clients is that CHANGE takes time and that the extra weight they/we are carrying did not miraculously appear over night and that losing that same weight will also take time.

Patience is a Virtue!
Today, I am drinking water like it is my job.
I started the day off with 2 glasses of warm lemon water, followed by 2 cups of Green Tea.
Hydration + Fat Burner
I had a lovely bowl of Super Seed Banana Oats.  I contemplated having a protein packed smoothie but it was cold this morning and the thought of a cold smoothie was not appealing.  I wanted something warm and comforting and this hit the spot.
I  upped the health quotient by adding all three of my favorite super seeds
Chia Seeds- Rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and AntioxidantsGround Flaxseed- Rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, lignans, and fiberHemp Seed- High Protein Seed containing all 8 essential amino acids

 Super Seed Banana Oats
1/2 cup of rolled oats1/2 cup of unsweetened almond milk 1/2 cup of water1 tbsp chia seeds1/2 banana, thinly sliced1 tsp ground cinnamon
Combine the above ingredients in a small pot and cook over medium heat for 4-6 minutes.  During the last minute stir vigorously until the banana has broken down and incorporated into the oats. Remove oats from heat and pour into your favorite bowl.
Top with:
1/2 banana, sliced1 tbsp hemp seeds1 tbsp ground flaxseedhandful of raspberries
Sit down, take in the beauty of your bowl, and then savor every little bite of goodness!
I completely enjoyed this lovely bowl of oats and may just have to make another one tomorrow.  This also has kept me full and satisfied throughout the morning.  I am definitely feeling the love again.
Lunch is going to be something GREEN!  On New Years Day we popped over to Laughing Planet Cafe for lunch and I had the most delicious Soylent Green Bowl.

Sautéed kale and steamed broccoli on a bed of grains (quinoa, local wheat berries, and barley) topped with house marinated tempeh ( or Tofu) and your choice of Cilantro Pumpkin Seed Pesto or Spanish Romesco sauce.

Oh my goodness, this was delicious and I was able to make it into two meals- lunch and dinner.  Anyhow, I have been dreaming about this ever since and am tempted to go pick it up for lunch.  Yum!
I had the Cilantro Pumpkin Seed Pesto last time and want to try the Spanish Romesco sauce this time.
The theme of the day is going to be adding in  MORE Green Veggies (always makes me feel better), drinking more water and steering clear of sweets.  I have purged the house of the holiday goodies and am focusing on eating clean and getting lean and mean!
Time for me to get to work.  Have a fantastic day and I hope to see some of you at Yoga Sculpt tonight.
