Yoga Pose May: Corpse Pose

Posted May 31 2010 12:00am

Hello everyone! It’s been very quiet at Juicy Fresh Bites for the past few weeks, and especially last week. This is because I spent an entire week in the BAHAMAS! It was my boyfriend’s university graduation trip. It was an awesome vacation with lots of time on the beach bathing in the warm sun and plenty of fun in the ocean doing all sorts of water activities from snorkeling to jet skiing and even “diving” in a tiny SUB unit. The trip was so so so MUCH fun!

Anyways, back to today’s topic: yoga!

I have always enjoyed yoga. I think it is an amazing fitness activity; it not only tones your body but it also helps to sooth your mind and help to restore and strengthen the connection between the mind and the body. Hence, when I found out that Tina & Kate were hosting Yoga Pose May , I knew I had to join in the fun to help promote yoga and encourage more people to get involved. So today, I am going to talk about savasana, which is also known as the corpse pose!

How to do it? (For more detailed directions, please visit )

What’s so great about it? De-stress! This pose is typically done at the end of a yoga routine to calm the brain and to relax the body. It can help relieve stress and reduce headache, fatigue and insomnia.

To me, this pose is not only the ideal way to end a yoga session, it is also THE method to relax and rejuvenate myself when I feel overwhelmed by everyday things like work and school. This pose really helps to clear my head and provides a new surge of energy to get through the hectic things in life. In short, Corpse pose is perfect for relaxation and rejuvenation I just love it! So now, it’s your turn to try. Let me know how you feel!

Be sure to check out what other yogis have to say about the Corpse pose: Jamie @ Embracing Balance , Sarah @ River City Fitness and Jessica @ Scarecrows in Shadows .

Do you like the Corpse pose? When do you enjoy doing it – just after a yoga practice or whenever you feel the need to relax (like me)?
