According to Experience Life magazine, real yams are a superfood. What we in the U.S. have been calling yams for the past century are actually orange sweet potatoes. Real yams are rare, but come in many varieties, such as Hawaiian and Korean. They actually can be found in colors such as off-white, yellow, pink and brownish black. Imagine the anti-oxidants in that bunch!
Yams are loaded with Vitamins B6 and C, which is supposed to help cholesterol. Wild yams, also known as Chinese Yams, have been used to help kidneys and also, the female endocrine system. Some people eat them or apply them to help hot flashes.
