whiteout ooor blackout...ooor just licorice

Posted Nov 24 2010 12:00am
So there was all these severe storm warnings all throughout Utah, they cancelled schools, people left work, shut down businesses all for this MEGA snow storm that was going to snow us all in. White out conditions they said. So some friends and I gathered to watch DIsney movies and chill out and be snowed in together. WELL, the power went out right away (so we were stoked for an exciting night) Unfortunately the snow storm didn't live up to expectations. There is like 5 inches of snow outside. Last week, no storm warnings, we had I think 8 inches or something.

ANYWAY. I tell this story because for a treat I brought grapes and black licorice. I love black licorice, but so many people hate it.
Sometimes I get black licorice for a "healthy candy". I love the Aussie style, soft black licorice. Even just one piece leave you satisfied!

So here's the run down on licorice root (like the REAL stuff, not strawberry flavored)
-Licorice root has a stuff in it that is 50-100x's SWEETER than table sugar! (news to me too!)
-Back in the day, the Greeks used it as a thirst quencher. (I never thought of it that way, but hmm....interesting!)
-Licorice stimulates the body to help prevent ulcers. (For the overly stressed folk!) It's more effective than antiacids. I had no idea! There was actually a study and it was 91% effective in treating ulcers, if the patient took licorice 20-30 minutes before a meal, it lines the stomach and helps protect it.
-Even helps maintain weight since it keeps stomachs in check
-It's effective in treating a whole bundle of things such as: Arthritis, Hepatitis, PMS, Hypoglycemia, Laxitive, Diuretic, Anti-spasmodic
-Anti infamatory, it acts like cortisone but not so many bad side effects. If I remember correctly, my mother got a shot of cortisone after a "bowling incident" when she crossed the line and tore something. (Those lanes are slippery!) Anyway, once it set it, her apetite went THROUGH the roof!
