What ways can we maintain healthy eating in the case of a long-term national disaster?

Posted by Merry K. Patient Expert

I've been thinking about this one a lot lately and I believe I've found a live, whole food solution that stores for 2 years. This can be stockpiled in case of emergency/disaster.

I've stored the typical disaster foods at different times in the past. Things like canned-goods and non perishables. But I always wondered, "How would I be able to get the really nutritious stuff?"

Am I the only one who's ever thought about this? What are your thoughts and suggestions?

When I think about a short-term or long-term disaster, such as an earthquake, I think about how I will eat and how I will survive. I'm not sure my main concern during a disaster will be my health, although it's important, survival would be priority. You do bring up a good point though. When preparing for a natural disaster, we can pack healthy and organic options.

The question I can never answer is, "How will I be able to get to the food?"

If I large earthquake hits and my house crumbles, it's never been very clear to me how I will get the food... healthy or not.

We're always advised to "stockpile" non perishables for possible disasters, etc. This mostly means canned goods and water. But those of us here know that canned goods are not going to deliver the nutrition we need and it can be very difficult to store large quanities of cans.

So what if we were able to obtain and store live, whole food, unpasteurized juice powder that has a 2 year shelf life? Even if the very worst happened we could literally live on this, long term, without having to obtain any other food items. This option takes up the least amount of room also.
