What to do about tomatoes?

Posted by Kristen D.

It's all over the news now that there are tomatoes that apparently are carrying salmonella and have made nearly 170 people sick since April. And, unlucky me, my state is one of the one's apparently associated with the outbreak.

Click on the title post for an article from CNN.com about how to tell your tomatoes are safe to eat and how to avoid getting sick.

Restaurants like McDonalds and Outback Steakhouse and plenty more have pulled most types of tomatoes from their menu for the time being.

Homegrown is just looking better and better these days.

I just read on CNN.com that six more states are reporting illnesses from tainted tomatoes: Florida, Georgia, Missouri, New York, Tennessee, and Vermont.

I have been eating the little grape tomatoes for a long time now - mostly because they're the only ones that seem to have any flavor. I don't think those are affected by the salmonella issue. Yes, homegrown tomatoes are hard to beat.
