What kind of pet food is best?

Make it yourself. I don't have a pet, but I have a lot of friends who do and who make their pet's food on their own and swear by it. Perhaps do a little research online or ask a vet what kinds of creations you can make easily, cheaply and safely for your pet.

Bench & Field. Try Bench & Field brand holistic pet food. This is what I feed my cat and she loves it. It is better quality than most store brands and also reasonably priced. You can find it at Trader Joe's or order it online from their website at: www.benchandfield.com

Not fruit!. Whatever you do, don't put your pet on Dick Gregory's fruitarian diet for pets. This is a raw fruit diet. I tried this on my dog -- he didn't even like fruit -- and he almost went into complete kidney failure! He was urinating in his sleep. I had to feed him distilled water and boiled chicken to nurse him out of it.

And keep in mind that dogs are opportunistic scavenger carnivores. No packaged dry food is really ideal for any dog or cat for that matter.
