My husband and I spent this past weekend in Chicago visiting a good friend and attending a cousin’s wedding. It was my first downtown “city” wedding, and it certainly didn’t disappoint!
Friday night we were able to stay with one of my best friends and roomies from college (who lives in a Chicago suburb). We spent the night together doing what we remember best……eating pizza from her family’s pizzeria, (you don’t even want to know how much of that pizza we consumed in college) and having a fiesta ;)
How can you say no to that face?! hahaha.
We reminisced on old times and made new memories together. I just love her <3
Saturday came bright and early, and we made our way to the city for the 12:30 wedding ceremony of Michael’s cousin.
The ceremony was touching and the church was gorgeousss. Such an adorable couple- they were so happy and in love.
We managed a few family pics afterwards,
and checked into our hotel while catching up with Michael’s family over some drinks and snacks. A few hours later we were walking onto the 15th floor of an enormous building among the Chicago skyline.
We were greeted with wine, hors d’oeuvres, and the most gorgeous view of the downtown skyline: spicy avocado soup and beef (I think!) wrapped asparagus. Both delicious! The soup was a tad too heavy for me along with the wine, but I loved the asparagus.
I spent a lot of time looking at this breathtaking view in deep conversations with family throughout the night! Well, as deep as they can be after a drink or two
and food to DIE FOR. I’m not sure if I’ve ever had this amazing of a meal at a wedding and I’m being 100% serious. Please excuse my pics…they were taken on an iphone with very little light- but the meal was way too epic not to show you a little glimpse no matter how bad the pics.
The first course was a salad with greens, blue cheese and sunflower seeds.
followed by sauteed veggies, roasted potatoes and the most PERFECT steak everrrrrr. Ever, ever, ever, ever. I really don’t eat red meat that often (maybe 2x a month, if that), but felt compelled to order it and now know that it was the best. decision. ever. Just take my word on it, awesome.
The sun was setting during the speeches, which was just perfect. I hope their photographers were able to justify how beautiful that sunset was! My iphone did a decent job at at it, ha!
The chocolate cake came and it was decision time. Do you eat it, or pass? I decided on 2 or 3 bites. Also worth every morsel. I don’t know what was in the water, but this meal was just epic.
Afterwards, we danced the night away. The groom proclaimed he had literally booked (and I quote) “the best DJ in Chicago”. After the night, I might have to agree with him. That DJ could just feel what the guests wanted and played it, ya know what I mean?
Did you really think I could leave chicago without some sort of yoga pic?!
The next morning we crawled out of the hotel and made it to a nearby restaurant with my in-laws:
and ate a veggie omelette the size of my head. Sadly, I really did eat a little over half of it at the restaurant and the rest in the car on the way home. But it was all that I ate that day.
Plus I drank 10,000 cups of coffee before we hit the road for a 7 hour voyage back to Ohio.
It was such a fun weekend! Chicago will always have my heart <3 It’s our dream to someday move to a suburb of Chicago and be closer to our families in Iowa. Until then, visits to the city will have to suffice!
