Whether you walk to rid yourself of tension, find solitude, get from one place to the next, or just pleasure; nearly everybody who walks on a regular basis does so at least in part because they know it is a good exercise that will bring a good end result.  Walking has often been described as “too easy” to really ever take seriously, however it has more recently taken on a new found respect in improving ones fitness.  Recent Studies show that when done with somewhat intensity, waking can improve the body’s ability to consume oxygen during exertion, reduce blood pressure, lower the resting heart rate, and increase the efficiency of the heart and lungs.  It will also burn excess calories.

Ironically, in some weight-loss research studies, walking has actually been proven to be even more effective than running and other exercises.  The reason, because it’s virtually injury-free and has the lowest dropout rate of any form of exercise.  Furthermore, walking has a significant psychological payoff.  Those who are just beginning a walking exercise reported to feel and sleep better, and that their mental outlook improves.
