I gave up on adding conventional protein supplements to my morning smoothie a long time ago.
A lot of the products I used to buy had an aftertaste that made me feel quite sick. I was also rather worried about some of the ingredients — I could barely pronounce them and I wondered if they were all that necessary.
For a long time, I replaced the protein content from these supplements with dry roasted peanuts (containing no oil or salt) or peanut butter. However, both roasted peanuts and peanut butter have a strong taste and it often made me feel like I was drinking the same smoothie day after day.
Over the past few years, I’ve been using two natural protein supplements I quite like in my breakfast smoothies. They contain natural or organic ingredients and I never have any issues with the aftertaste.
They are Genuine Health Proteins+ (the chocolate flavour is my favourite) and Vega Complete Whole Food Health Optimizer (you may want to camouflage the taste of this one as it’s fairly strong, but once you add a banana and a few handfuls of berries, you shouldn’t have any problem enjoying it).
