If you think of a cocktail as being dessert -- because it pretty much IS, carb and calorie-wise -- you will drink sensibly at holiday gatherings. Save the indulgence for a glass of the best wine or maybe a special cognac. You don't want to waste your waist on drinks that seem like they are straight from the Ledo deck of a cruise ship. I agree with the concept of alternating with a glass of water. This will help prevent hangovers and fuel digestion.
