Useful Drinking Tips for the Holiday Season

Posted by Nirmala N.

  • Red wine is the best libation to go for if you want to drink, but anything after a couple glasses pretty much cancels out the benefits.
  • Go for organic when possible--they have less chemicals and additives.
  • Choose pure fruit juice, soda, and mineral water as mixers.
  • Definitely avoid the egg nog whenever possible.
  • Don't top your glass. Refill your drink only when it's totally finished, so you can keep track of how much you drink.
  • Alternate each alcoholic drink with a glass of water.

If you think of a cocktail as being dessert -- because it pretty much IS, carb and calorie-wise -- you will drink sensibly at holiday gatherings. Save the indulgence for a glass of the best wine or maybe a special cognac. You don't want to waste your waist on drinks that seem like they are straight from the Ledo deck of a cruise ship. I agree with the concept of alternating with a glass of water. This will help prevent hangovers and fuel digestion.
