Are you guys all done with your Christmas shopping, because I AM NOT! I have to finish this week after I have a day off! I’ve been go go go with holiday orders and getting orders organized for this weekend & next week..and I love every second of it.
I’m trying to stay balanced as best as I can, but it is hard. Yesterday I had a jam packed day, so I woke up at 5:30 and did at home yoga. I knew it was the only way I was going to get in a workout. My first thought when I woke up, was NO WAY am I getting up, but I knew it would give me energy to keep working until 10 or 11 o clock at night. Once I laid down on my yoga mat in child’s pose I knew I made the right decision.
My body has been SO tight from running, even though I’m not adding any more miles. I have been trying to be religious about my foam roller, taking time to roll on it every day. I used to do this when I was having major IT band/knee issues and it HELPS. Now that I’m having minor issues, I’m trying to combat it with lots of stretching, china gel (a natural icy hot) and not pushing it.
I have the huge 3 foot foam roller and I stand by my statement that it’s the best piece of fitness/exercise equipment I ever bought. Matter of fact, it sparked a lot of talk on twitter.
Why use a foam roller?
It provides the same benefits as a deep tissue massage. (Myofascial Release)
It helps you increase flexibility & decrease musble tension.
Foam rollers can help prevent injury and improve athletic performance.

You basically just roll over it on different parts of your body. My favorite is working the IT band, back and hamstrings. Hurts, but feels SO good. I would also recommend watching a video, like this one , if you feel like you are not doing it right.
Anyway go and get one! You won’t be disappointed! Also, your gym probably has one somewhere and you may have seen trainers rolling their clients with it.
On another note: I thought I’d share a picture from a talk I did Thursday night. I got asked to do a talk to a local men & women’s club on the North Shore. They meet every week and have different presenters. My talk was about staying healthy through the holiday season & ways to naturally boost your metabolism through food & exercise. It was a lot of fun and reminded me why I need to do this morning often. It brought me back to teaching and how I love being in front of people sharing important information I’m passionate about. I used to be SO nervous speaking in front of a crowd and I was surprised at how natural it felt to me after not doing a talk for a couple of months. I think the fact I was so busy all day and didn’t have time to actually stop, think and get nervous helped!
