I thought it would be really fun to see what Halloween candy are the “healthiest”. I put that in quote because we’re just talking about calories here and which ones do the least damage. I’m all about treating yourself (yo’self?) on special occassions, and I believe today counts.
Dark chocolate is always one of the best choices you can make. Simple is also great, so go for a piece of Hershey’s Special Dark or A Mars Milky Way Midnight. You’ll be happy with the chocolate and also get in some anti-oxidants.
Next up is nuts. You’ll get some fiber, protein and vitamin E. Try Snickers or Hershey’s with Almonds.
If we’re just talking calorie counts, then go for:
3 musketeers mini for 24 calories. (The highest calorie mini is the butterfinger, for 45 calories each. )
Tootsie Caramel Apple Pop for 60 calories.
A dum dum for only 20 calories.
And a nice simple treat, 3 Hershey kisses for 67 calories.
One original tootsie roll, 26 calories
Now let’s move on, to a little game, what’s the better choice? ( source )
Starburst or Jolly Rancher? Although Starburst has less calories per piece, you’re more likely to eat more starburst in a row than Jolly Rancher because Jolly Rancher’s last longer. Go for Jolly Rancher! (Plus they don’t stick in your teeth!)
Smarties or SweeTarts? Smarties have about half the calories and sugar of an equivalent serving of SweeTarts, and they are smaller so you feel like you’re eating more.
and last, Skittles or Peanut M&M’s? Even though skittles are lower in calories, peanut M&M’s have peanuts which give you some fiber benefit. Skittles are pure sugar!
So exercise some portion control today, but make sure you do, in fact, treat yourself!
Happy Halloween! What a great way to start the week right?

While I’d rather have a treat like these spectacular spiders or these “devil”ishly good cupcakes , a small piece o’candy can hit the spot sometimes too.
So what are the best contenders?
