Tips to Tackling Super Bowl without Eating like a Linebacker!

Posted Feb 03 2012 7:09am

Super Bowl is this weekend, is anyone else SUPER excited?!?!

Well, I’m more excited for the food and company than anything else. Honestly, I could care less about football. I know, that’s probably bad because the Giants are playing, but who would I be if I lied and pretended I <3 football?

I’ve got a serious food list. I’m having a dinner party for my friends tomorrow night and then family over for Super Bowl Sunday, so I’m starting to get prepared. Two days of some seriously good food.

Combined with a weekend of serious food eating, it’s February 3rd, which means we’re one month and 3 days into our New Years Resolutions & Goals. I KNOW some of you are having some serious anxiety about sabotaging your WHOLE eating well routine on Sunday.

So STOP the anxiety, take a deep breath and read my tips to help you stay on track while still enjoying yourself!

We tend to think we either have to GO BALLS TO THE WALL or DEPRIVE ourselves and sit at a party salivating over the dishes, while chomping on carrot sticks. I’m here to tell you, PEOPLE IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THAT WAY!! Put down the carrot sticks (well maybe don’t) and stop feeling like you CAN’T eat ANYTHING!

1. Go in with a plan. What do you enjoy the MOST? Is it nachos? Fried something? Then GO for it. Have a SMALL serving of your 1-2 favorite dishes.

2. Fill the rest of your plate with healthy sides. Maybe it’s a great salad, a veggie, dish, healthy chili. Whatever it is, make your plate 75% filled with healthy foods.

3. Bring a delicious healthy dish for you and others to snack on. Maybe make these mini layer dips or artichoke dip . Bring a veggie or fruit platter. Something so you know there will be a healthy choice. Remember healthy DOESN’T mean bland or boring. Even better would be to find a healthier version of your favorite not-so healthy dish!

4. Recruit someone to help you stay accountable. If you tell someone you’re trying to find balance between your favorite dishes and eating healthy, maybe they will do the same with you!

5. Eat well before you go to your party. Eat a nice whole grain, protein filled breakfast and eat lunch. DON’T go to your party starving, that’s a fast way to eat everything in site because you’re FAMISHED!

6. HAVE FUN! You want to enjoy yourself and not spend the entire day/night thinking and dreaming about food YOU COULD BE HAVING. Treat yo’ self a little bit and focus on the GAME and the company. That’s why you’re there RIGHT?! End of story.

If you “slip up” a little bit, it’s OKAY. Get back to it on Monday. One day of “slip ups” does not discount the entire month of hard work you’ve put in.
