The View 5 diet plans for a slimmer body

Last Friday, Sherri and Whoopi presented 5 different diet experts who gave the audience 5 different diet plans for the New Year to burn that belly fat away and lose all that unwanted weight.

I watch in amazement and shaking my head the whole time thinking of the many unsuspecting souls who were going to yet again start a new diet plan that would most likely fail before February 1st.

Now, it’s obvious that before you even think of starting a diet, you need to check with your doctor and shows like The View are simply displaying what’s out there. I know during the segment there was a lot of talk about “Whoopi used this diet to lose 15 lbs” and “this diet really worked well for Whoopi”, but that’s no reason to jump into any of these diets without a serious chat with your doctor.

Before I put in my own grain of salt, let’s take a look at the 5 diet plans presented on The View on Friday, December 18th, 2009. That said, I’ve added a few quick notes at the end of each diet to give you my perspective on things:

1) Dr. Siegal’s Cookie Diet

Eat low-calorie cookies and one healthy meal a day to help drop the pounds. Visit cookiediet.com for more information.

Krizia’s take: Fine Dr. Siegal, so we’re supposed to eat cookies for two out of three meals and lose the weight. How in the world does that teaches anyone to have a positive relationship with (REAL) food and what are you supposed to do when eating at friends or at a restaurant … pull out your packet of cookies? In my opinion, this is a very short-lived solution.

2) Physio Cleanse with Melissa Bowman Li

This twenty-eight day cleanse claims to eliminate toxins from your body through your lungs, skin, kidneys, and bowels by restricting your alcohol, caffeine, sugar, gluten, and dairy intake. Whoopi has been on this program recently and has seen weight loss.

Krizia’s take: ANY body cleanse will help you get rid of toxins. You don’t need to have a specific brand or cleanse for that to happen. Also, NO cleanse (and I repeat, NO CLEANSE) should ever be undertaken without talking to your doctor first (period).

3) The Perfect 10 Diet by Dr. Michael Aziz

Dr. Aziz’s three-stage diet is all about managing a perfect balance between your 10 key hormones for better health and weight loss. For more information, pick up the book The Perfect 10 Diet: The Breakthrough Diet Solution-10 Key Hormones You Must Balance to Melt away the Pounds and Stay Healthy for Life in bookstores now!

Krizia’s take: Indeed, hormones can have a huge impact on your weight. I’ll say this is another one of these more complicated diet plans that would need a bit more analysis before discounting it or adopting it.

4) Jorge Cruise’s Belly Fat Cure

With Jorge Cruise’s The Belly Fat Cure: Discover the New Carb Swap System and Lose 4 to 9 lbs. Every Week, you can learn how to lose troublesome belly fat without counting calories or going to the gym — it’s simply about keeping your insulin low by limiting your carbs and sugars.

Krizia’s take: Jorge is basing his entire program on insulin. Now, I’d need more time to analyze this further, but he’s talking about balancing your insulin to lose weight around the waist by eating the right amount of sugar versus the right amount of carbs. He also talks about giving “belly good options” and “belly bad options”.

He promises to have you losing 4-9 pounds of belly fat, but he’s talking about no need to exercise and keeping your habit of eating at your favourite fast food restaurants … which I’m a bit confused about and hope to get a better understanding once I analyze his program a little more.

>>>> In the following video you’ll see him at Mc Donalds where he recommends a bun-less Angus burger, fries and large coffee drink with cream (God Lord!)!

I still find this is highly complicated (at first glance) and honestly the idea is that Americans are stuck in the fast food restaurants and the “American diet” that’s causing all this obesity serves no purpose in my book. I think the plan should be to cut back (way back) fast food eateries, but again, I’ll dig further in Jorge Cruise’s diet plan and get back to you.

5) 7 Day Energy Surge by Jim Karas

The key to this weight loss plan is increased energy and metabolism. Jim Karas highlights music, sleep, and sex to help with weight loss in his book The 7 Day Energy Surge.

Krizia’s take: Hmmm, I think Jim Karas’ approach seems a lot more balanced than many on this list and I cannot argue with someone who promotes increaging metabolisms with high energy music, proper sleep and much needed (healty sex, aka NOT ala Tiger Woods)!

>>> My final words!

During the segment, Sherri and Whoopi where going through each diet at break neck speed. I mean each diet expert had about 60 seconds to give a compelling explanation as to “WHY” you should pick their diet plan to lose weight in the New Year.

I felt extremely rushed watching the segment and I don’t feel I got enough information to make an intelligent decision. Now, when you consider that I live/breathe/sleep this healthy weight industry and spend so much of my life being informed on all these new diets/gimmicks/fades, I can just imagine how confused the average American must be after watching that segment.

Here’s another thing, a lot of these options aren’t the cheapest, so a lot more information SHOULD be required before making any decisions.

>>> Do your research first!

A contact of mine emailed me saying that she had gained weight while dealing with menopause and was looking for a solution to drop the weight. She consulted a clinic that promised to help her drop 30 lbs for a measly $3600 (yup, that would be $120 per lbs loss) and I honestly was too shocked for words. My contact also admitted that she knew that her poor eating habits and sedentary lifestyle combined with the hormonal changes where actually the culprit and she didn’t need to spend $3600 to find that out (Amen to that).

I promised her that I would make 2010 the year that I would share more of the ways I keep a healthy weight without dropping $3600 or having to deal with all these complicated diets … the cookie diet (please!).

Now since most of the diets discussed during The View, December 18th, 2009 show are doctors, they have far more medical experience than I, but then I think of how many of their patients who have gone through these fad diets, lost the weight and then put it back on again because those diets are not always base on changing habits, but rather getting a quick fix.

Before you drop any kind of money of a diet that promises to have you looking like Madonna within a few weeks, step back and think about it. Madonna works damn hard at keeping that body in her 50s and it’s all about what she eats and her fitness regime. YES I KNOW, she has more time and money than most of us, but I can assure you that it’s possible even if you don’t have a celebrity-lifestyle, celebrity-trainer, celebrity-chef or celebrity-budget.

>>> So have you been surfing the internet looking for the hottest 2010 diets? If so, I’d love to hear from you and I’d love to know what motivates you in those quick-fix solutions! Leave your comments below.
