The Tale of Accidental Icecream and Accidental Frozen Yogurt

Posted Sep 17 2012 4:12am
Would you believe me if I told you I made the following by accident?

This accidental ice cream all started a few nights back when I was getting ready for bread and realized I was out of my breakfast bread and would have to come up with something else to go along with eggs and greek yogurt in the morning. No problem, except there just didn’t seem to be anything interesting in the cupboards, so I decided to throw some ingredients into some yogurt before going to bed and hopped it turned into something fancy overnight. Perhaps something along the lines of the shoemaker’s elf fairy tale except I was hoping for something a little more than repaired shoes.

I was disappointed in the morning to find that no magic had been worked on my magic bowl of random ingredients. Thus I stuck it in the freezer as I made eggs, cut fruit, made coffee, and packed lunch. I kept checking the bowl in the freezer and giving it a little stir only to soon realize that magic was indeed occurring before my very eyes. That’s right folks I made a high protein breakfast icecream which even gives you the benefits of flax seed…all by accident. With no cones in the cupboard (you can imagine by now a very empty cupboard) I used Korean Poppers to scoop my ice cream.

I originally started seeing these Poppers in the packaged cracker isle under brands such as Mr. Wheaties. But those disappeared because now most of my regular grocery stores pop them in store with a really cool machine. I even got to try a freshly popped one that was still warm! You can check out a video here . As a side note I couldn’t resist showing you some of the other things I have enjoyed using them for:

Back to the ice cream story, because it doesn’t end at the happy ending where I left off. It ends on an even happier note, because at a later date as I was enjoying another batch of accidental icecream, I decided to start experimenting and came upon…accidental frozen yogurt:

Of course I used some more Korean Poppers as cones for this accidental frozen yogurt. All of this goodness, and you don’t even need an icecream maker!

What is your favourite fairy tale? Have you ever made anything by accident?
