Vitamin A: Needed for day and night vision, clear skin, healthy hair and nails, mucous membrane function, digestion, reproduction, red and white blood cell formation, longevity. Deficiency symptoms include night blindness, light sensitivity, dry skin, blackheads and whiteheads, dandruff, weak nails, and bacterial infections of the mucous membranes. Amount needed daily: 5,000 units. Found in spinach, carrots, broccoli, squash, apricots, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, peas, lettuce, and asparagus.
