The Perfect Gift for Foodie Trivia Lovers

Posted Nov 07 2011 9:46am

Last year, I gave you a Very Foodie Fall . This year, I give you…

A Very Foodie Holiday! This once-a-weekish series will include all things food, nutrition, health, and fitness as they relate to the holiday season. I promise to not let my holiday spirit get too obnoxious, and I also promise not to share lame “how not to gain weight over the holidays” tips.

To kick off the Very Foodie Holiday season, I present my favorite gift for food and game lovers: Foodie Fight !

When my mom and I were in New York , we spotted this board game at the MOMA and knew it would be a perfect souvenir for my foodie dad (it’s pretty clear I inherited my love of food and cooking from him!).

Food and trivia lovers alike will love this game! The rules are pretty simple: take turns answering questions to fill six themed plates (sort of like Trivial Pursuit). The categories are Foodieshpere (the world of food), Lab and Field (science and biology), Dining Out (restaurants and menus), Food Stars (foodie pop culture), Company’s Coming (etiquette), and What’s Cooking (ingredients and cooking).

The game includes over 1,000 questions on topics ranging from culinary science and celebrity chefs to food history and exotic cuisine. My parents and I tested out the game this weekend when they came to visit, and it was a blast. The questions range from the esoteric (“Where could you see a cow sculpted from 550 pounds of butter every August?”) to the more universally known (“What ground corn, whose name means ‘dough’ in Spanish, is used to make tortillas and tamales?”).

Though I wouldn’t classify it as an easy game, it’s not so hard that non-foodies wouldn’t enjoy themselves. And at around $13-20 (depending where you buy it from), it’s a cheap and unique present that’s bound to delight any food lover you know. Or you could buy it for yourself and bring it out at family gatherings. I’m totally planning on playing a rousing game of Foodie Fight over Thanksgiving!

Oh, and in case you were wondering what happened when I played with my parents over the weekend… My dad won by a landslide.
