The Inspirational Jillian Michaels
Posted Oct 21 2008 12:20am
Self Magazine sponsored their 15th Workout in the Park event yesterday. Those who attended in NYC had the opportunity for a meet & greet with Jillian Michaels, one of the trainers from The Biggest Loser.
I admire several trainers and health guru’s that the general public has not likely heard of such as Craig Ballantyne, Alwyn Cosgrove, and Dr. John Berardi amongst others. Matter-of-fact, I previously snubbed my nose at anyone who could be considered a “celebrity trainer”. As such, I found myself a bit perplexed when I realized that Jillian Michaels was having such a profound impact in my life.
As I wrote in my first blog posting, Jillian has been a major influence in my decision to get healthy. More importantly however is the influence Jillian has had in my decision to commit to educating and helping others. It is specifically because of Jillian that I’ve decided to pursue certifications in fitness and nutrition and why I’ve been pounding my NESTA Fitness Nutrition Coach Certification manual these past few weeks.
But the question still remains, why has this individual whom I’ve never met impacted my life?
Earlier this year I joined JillianMichaels.com in an attempt to gain a better understanding on this matter. Most of my time on the site is spent on the message boards. Unlike any other message board I’ve participated in, there is no room for malevolence, mockery or ill will towards others. Jillian’s followers are individuals filled with hope, empathy and understanding.
Several members of Jillian’s Website went to Central Park yesterday in hopes of having the opportunity to meet Jillian in person. Not only did Jillian take time to sign autographs, but she spent a good deal of time speaking with these women, referring to other individuals who participate on the message board and specifically referencing message board postings. There were hugs, photographs, and well-wishes.
There is a quote by John Quincy Adams, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader”.
I think it’s pretty clear as to why so many find Jillian inspirational. In Jillian, we have a true leader who practices what she preaches.

Stay strong.
