This is the user-friendly guide to the DASH diet. Proven to lower blood pressure and cholesterol without medication, it was developed in research sponsored by US National Institutes of Health, entitled, the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH). Each new research study continues to prove the benefits of the DASH Diet. The DASH diet is recommended by the U.S. treatment guidelines for hypertension. The 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans advocate this eating plan for everyone. And the DASH diet forms the basis for the USDA MyPyramid. It is an eating plan that is rich in fruits, vegetables, low fat or nonfat dairy, is low in sodium, and includes lean meats, fish and poultry, grains, nuts and beans. The DASH diet helps lower cholesterol and supports healthy weight loss. It is flexible enough to meet the lifestyle and food preferences of most people. It was written by a dietitian who is experienced in helping people make sustainable changes in how they eat. Learn how to follow the DASH diet in your real life. 5 Stars This diet works for lowering blood pressure.
This book was recommended by my doctor for lowering blood pressure and it has worked – mainly adding potassium to my diet. I have also lost some weight which is a goal for me as well. I have tried many diets and find this one easy to follow and very healthful.
4 Stars Dash Diet Plan Book
Seems to be a pretty good book. First one I’ve found that has actual menus in it for a month! That’s the problem with most diet plans, they tell to to eat certain things, but you have no idea how to put them together.
5 Stars Essential book…
My doctor recently said that my BP was getting a bit high – nothing serious, about 130/90. In the old days, they would have said this was fine, but more and more research shows that even “mild” hypertension is best to be avoided. I don’t want to end up doing the “popping pills” option, so I thought I’d finally get serious and look into this DASH diet my doc had been mentioning for years.
I purchased this book a few weeks ago, and I’m happy to say that it is just what I needed – a good mix of dietary info, scientific facts, menu suggestions and recipes. Some of the chapters include:
* Conquering hypertension & heart disease
* 28 days of 2,000 calorie DASH menus
* DASH your way to weight loss
* Other Health Concerns
* Lifestyle Changes to help lower blood pressure
* Deciphering food labels
* The DASH kitchen makeover
I’m about to start following the DASH diet (goes to prove that BUYING a book is only the first step…), and I’ll update here with my results.
