Thanksgiving 2011 Recap

Posted Nov 28 2011 10:00am

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, its back to work I go! Getting ready for the work week was tough after a lovely 4 days of Thanksgiving celebrating. Fortunately all of my pants still fit and I wasn’t a turkey induced coma.

Quick recap of my Thanksgiving weekend coming, but first…Thanks so much for all the well wishes on cooking my very FIRST Thanksgiving meal! I woke up bright and early on Thursday to start cooking and was pleased to find a few tweets and emails wishing me luck. How nice is that?!

Well, I’m happy to report that I did not fail the holiday. The final result was humble compared to many tables, but it fed us and we enjoyed every single bite.

On the Menu:

Stuffed mushrooms (recipe coming tomorrow!)

My very first turkey

Roasted Brussels Sprouts

Layered Mashed Potato Bake

Stuffed Acorn Squash (The Scientist’s work!)

Homemade cranberry sauce ;)

Peju Merlot wine from our trip to Napa in May

My plate looked a little like this. A taste of everything. Plus a little bit of pie at the end!

Since it was the two of us I skipped the fancy placemats and all that jazz.  I would have used paper plates if The Scientist hadn’t made a deal to do all the dishes. He is probably still regretting not taking that deal today. No frills kind of meal. Just good food with great company.

Speaking of company…while I was cooking The Scientist was busy keeping up with football and relaxing. I set up my workstation and put Netflix to work on the iPad.

Korky was also my constant companion in case I dropped a crumb or two.  He is such a polite little beggar!

Seriously. How cute is that mutt?!

Overall, Thanksgiving was a success. I had no idea how much work went into preparing a meal this size. When I look at people’s menus now I will have a whole new respect for them. Or I might just think to myself how nuts they are. By the way, if anyone just wants to invite me over next year for turkey day, I am more than happy to give up the cooking and just mooch off your meal. ;) Kidding…kind of.

It is officially back to normal around here. Lunch was packed last night. Clothes were laid out. Plan for the gym in place. I heard a great phrase last week that I’m keeping in the back of my head the whole holiday season.

It is called a holiDAY, not a holiWEEK or holiMONTH.”

Ahhh. So true.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Oh, and one last thought.

This past Saturday was rivalry football weekend for The Scientist and I. I’m happy to report that I was victorious and just proved (yet again!) that I went to the better college. ;)
