Tap water in the news

Posted by Larissa

There has been a lot of discussion around water:

How much water should we drink?

Is bottled water better than tap water?

Drinking bottled water is wasteful.

But check out this news article from the Associated Press: "A vast array of pharmaceuticals - including antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones - have been found in the drinking water supplies of at least 41 million Americans, an Associated Press investigation shows... In the course of a five-month inquiry, the AP discovered that drugs have been detected in the drinking water supplies of 24 major metropolitan areas - from Southern California to Northern New Jersey, from Detroit to Louisville, Ky."

Do you drink bottled water or tap and do you live in a major metropolitan area?

I was just reading an article about bottled water and how some places are banning it. That really bothers me. In a city just 20 minutes from my house, boiled water warnings have been issued more than once in the past couple years. I am not only pregnant, but I have a child, and I would much rather be wasteful than risk harming my children! If bottled water bans are going to happen, it would make sense for governments to not only give everyone a stainless steel water bottle (as they recommend one use) but to also give discounts on water systems.

Thanks for this information.

It's a Catch 22. You don't want to harm yourself (or your kids) and you don't want to harm the environment, BUT drinking bottled water is harming the environment, which in turn will affect your children. If cities are going to start banning water bottles, they need to test and clean our tap water first!
