The World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) t has moved UV tanning beds to its highest cancer risk category — carcinogenic to humans.
Researchers from IARC say tanning beds are “ as deadly as arsenic and mustard gas.”
In an interview with WebMD, the IARC’s Vincent Cogliano, PhD, called the scientific evidence linking indoor tanning to the deadly skin cancer melanoma “sufficient and compelling.”
IARC researchers found that the risk of skin cancer jumps by 75 percent when people start using tanning beds before age 30. This applies to ALL types of UV rays.
