Super Seed Oats- Chia, Flax and Hemp!

Good Evening and Happy Saturday!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far.  It has been all about soccer here in the White household and I am happy to report that we had a great start to the season.

Now before heading out the door I made a big batch of Super Seed Oats to get the day started out right!  It has been a long time since I have posted about my beloved oats because it seems I have taken a hiatus   from them.  Shock, I know!  I went from eating my oats daily, to,3 x a week, to the occasional bowl.  I think it may have something to do with my daily juicing. It is sort of crowding out one of my favorite breakfast  staples.  

Well today, I needed a little more grounding breakfast and resurrected my love for oats.  I think the reason I love oats so much is because they are the perfect canvas to add all sorts of healthy goodies to.

My absolute favorite way to prepare oats is with banana.  I am a huge fan of bananas and get sad when I hear them getting a bad rap because they are such a healthy food!  Yes, I know they are higher on the GI scale (glycemic index) but bananas are

  • Great Source of Potassium
  • May Help to Prevent High Blood Pressure
  • Promotes Bone Health
  • Protects Against Stomach Ulcers
  • Helps with Elimination
  • Protects Eyesight
  • Improves Nutrient Absorption
  • Rich in Provitamin A
  • Rich in Iron

As well as being sweet and creamy!

So this morning I made "whipped" banana oats and upped the health quotient by adding all three of my favorite super seeds

  • Chia Seeds- Rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and Antioxidants
  • Ground Flaxseed- Rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, lignans, and fiber
  • Hemp Seed- High Protein Seed containing all 8 essential amino acids 

 Super Seed Banana Oats

1/2 cup of rolled oats1/2 cup of unsweetened coconut milk beverage (So Delicious) 1/2 cup of water1 tbsp chia seeds1/2 banana, thinly sliced1 tsp ground cinnamon
Combine the above ingredients in a small pot and cook over medium heat for 4-6 minutes.  During the last minute stir vigorously until the banana has broken down and incorporated into the oats. Remove oats from heat and pour into your favorite bowl.  
Top with:
1/2 banana, sliced1 tbsp hemp seeds1 tbsp ground flaxseedhandful of raspberries
Sit down, take in the beauty of your bowl, and then savor every little bite of goodness!
I completely enjoyed this lovely bowl of oats and may just have to make another one tomorrow.  This also kept me full and satisfied throughout the morning.  I am definitely feeling the love again.
