Wonderfully healthy cholesterol-lowering oatmeal made tasty for breakfast. The soluble fiber allows you to stay full all morning, and benefits your heart as well (the beta-glucans are what is thought to lower your cholesterol). And I add some nuts in (almonds or pecans) for some morning protein and healthy fats.

1 cup steel cut oats or regular oats 4 cups water 1 cup dried fruit (I use raisins) 1 cup apples, peeled and chopped OR I also like bananas! 1/2 cup milk 1/4 cup honey OR real maple syrup (if you have it) 1 Tablespoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon nutmeg 1 teaspoon ground cloves 1 Tablespoon vanilla small pinch of salt
brown sugar (just a small amount to top the oatmeal with when serving) nuts of your choice (stir in just before serving because they get mushy otherwise)
Directions: throw all in to crock pot/slow cooker and let cook on low overnight. It will be ready in the morning. You can really add whatever you want and it will be perfect!
