*Slash the Salt, Add Some FLAVOR!*

Posted Apr 15 2010 12:00am
*Good Evening Guests!*

Its a well known fact that I have an obession with health food! Its also well known that I'm a stick-ler about NOT counting calories- I just eat healthy and eat when I want. What a freedom!
One of the best things I ever did was take out salt from  my diet. Now, most people probably find this entirely unacceptable, or way too hard. I understand, completely. However, something I started doing a couple years ago was experimenting with spices and herbs and different salt-free blends found on the baking aisle at your grocery store, or fresh herbs in produce ( but I like the dried ones just fine !)

Here's where I don't go all organic. I know I probably should because herbs are sprayed like produce, but that can get expensive. One brand if you do want to go organic that is cheaper and comes in large glass bottles that are great reusable spice bottles instead of shorter plastic ones, is Simply Organics brand.

* I love the Garlic and Herb blend that is found at Whole Foods or at Amazon!

* By the way, I joined Amazon.com's Prime Program. They ship you anything you want free in 2 day shipping! Check out a link here to access Amazon if you want to order products featured, or you can search the search bar in this blog:) I love it; it's so convenient!

Another one of my favorite spices is Mrs. Dash- The good ole Original Blend.

Throw some of this awesome salt free spice onto your next salad or steak or chicken dish! You will NOT be disappointed:)

My favorite salad with Mrs. Dash Original Blend is the following:

*Heat It Up* Salad
- This salad has a little heat to it when you add the dressing, but its really tasty!!

Salad: Serves 2

  • 1 head romaine, shredded

  • 10 baby carrots, chopped

  • 1/2  a red bell pepper chopped

  • 1/4 cup chopped strawberries

  • 1/2 a zuccini squash, sliced

  • 1/2 a cucumber, sliced

  • Mrs. Dash Original Blend - use as much as you want on top of this salad!

Dressing: 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar, 1 tsp. parsley, 1 tsp. crushed red pepper and 1/2 cup mustard. Blend all well in a bowl and top the salad with the dressing

Mrs. Dash comes in 14 different flavors! Check them all out here:

*I'm sure I don't have to mention why salt is bad for you, but just to name a few- High Blood Pressure, bloating, electrolyte imbalance, water imbalance, excess weight gain, and poor digestion just to name a few!Not to mention, when you have a high sodium diet and develop high blood pressure, your heart can't pump the blood it needs to pump efficiently through your arteries. Take care of your heart- nix the salt!:)

* I have almost 30 different spices, but several remain my favorite:

I add cinnamon, ginger, cloves and cardamom to almost anything that can be sweet, including sweet potatoes, yogurt, smoothies, oatmeal, almond milk, etc. I love these! For savory spices my favorite are sage, Mrs. Dash, cilantro, chives, minced garlic, turmeric, curry and rosemary. Oh! and good ole cracked GROUND black pepper:)

So I hope you'll try a few of these. Add them to any dish you want and just replace the salt where it is used for seasoning:)* You'll love it I promise:)

Heart and Soul,

.:*Millie Lou:.*
