John at Nature’s Last Stand (read about my visit to the farm
here ) made me keep mum about the Obama ’08 squashes until they were ready for harvest, but they’re finally ready, just in time for election season. They’re selling fast. The lovely specimen above turned out much better than some of the endearing-yet-bumpier squash:
It was definitely the week of interesting squash at the market. I bought a blue one from this batch, but first considered getting a butternut with a neck that was several feet long:
I admired the bright red color of these guys, which we think were rouge vif d’Étampes:
Among non-squash interests, I saw these black Spanish radishes at the Ballard farmers market:
And these grapes:
To the delight of some mushroom enthusiasts, it’s matsutake season:
While the impressive autumn-bearing raspberry bushes are still putting forth berries:
