When I eat out I usually have a side salad with my meal. Whether I am splurging on pizza or doing the grilled chicken and steamed veggies. It turns out there is good scientific reasoning behind that choice. A study published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association found that people who consumed three cups of salad totaling 100 calories prior to a meal ate 12% less calories overall. This is a basic no croutons, bacon or shredded cheese type of salad. I also use the trick of not pouring dressing over my salad. I dip the tines of my fork into it and then spear a bite. This way I get the flavor and not a lot of dressing with a little lettuce mixed in for crunch. Over the course of a year this small change could have a significant impact on your weight. Why not give it a try?
I do that, and even if I eat most or all of my main course despite, at least I've gotten in lots of vitamins from all the greens!
Another eat-less dining out trick is to make a smoothie of frozen fruit, sparkling water, and protein powder you go out. It's essentially fruit but with tummy filling protein!
