I recently watched Coffee and Cigarettes by Jim Jarmusch again and and since coffee and Valentine’s Day are on my mind, I thought I would share three less traditional ways to enjoy the holiday: lots of coffee, a good comedy, and that someone special (friend or otherwise).
Jarmusch’s film came out in 2003 and is a comic homage to life’s obsessions, as the title suggests, and brings the directors unique cast of actors and musicians together over the course of eleven story vignettes. Two of my favorites include the scene with Cate Blanchett who plays both an uptight celebrity and her no-name down and out rocker cousin and the scene with Tom Waits and Iggy Pop .
I’m a Jarmusch fan, and love that he shot the film over a number of years beginning in 1986, but I have to admit–the film may not be for everyone. It does, however, capture many a meandering conversation many have shared or overheard over a hot cup of coffee and possibly, cigarettes.
Now onto the coffee (no smokes) giveaway.
To celebrate Valentine’s Day, Seattle’s Best Coffee is offering five readers the chance to try their new line of Iced Canned Lattes (regular, vanilla, and mocha) along with a sample pack of their new Levels coffee (five blends labeled “1” through “5” in order of the strength of the roast).
For a chance to win, leave a comment about coffee or film or coffee and film or whatever romantic notions you choose by Wednesday, February 16 at 12 am EST and I’ll draw five winners at random Thursday morning.
p.s. If Coffee and Cigarettes isn’t your style of film, here’s fourteen of my favorite romantic comedies to inspire your Valentine’s Day.
