Scientific American says, “Water is Appetite Suppressant.” Give your Water a Flavor Boost.

Posted Aug 24 2010 7:30pm

Today, Scientific American magazine released a study that claims drinking water before meals reduces total calories consumed by 75 to 90 calories. Allow us translate:  Water is a free, easily accessible and a healthy diet supplement that helps with overeating.  The Pump has some ideas on how to add excitement to boring, plain water to keep you motivated to hydrate.

Cucumber Water

Cut diagonal cucumber slices with skins from one large cucumber and add to a pitcher of water, allowing it to seep for one hour.  Cucumbers give it a fresh, cool flavor profile with little to no sugar.

Lemon Ice Cubes

Freeze one part water and one part lemon juice in ice cube trays.  Add a cube to your next class of water.  A refreshing citrus infusion results.

Frozen Honeydew Balls

Use a melon scooper and scoop circular balls of honeydew, a type of melon that’s lower in sugar than most fruits.  Freeze.  Drop one or two in a glass of bubbly seltzer water.  Allow to sit then mash with the back of a spoon for a pulp-like refresher.

Any other ideas?  We want to hear.  Post a note in our comments.
