I'm in South Tampa this week for my prosthetic leg (finally). While here, I found this great natural foods market called Rollin' Oats. I discovered this place four years ago, but at that time, it was called Nature's Harvest. It was a family-owned grocery store for about 35 years with a deli inside, serving hot & healthy fresh vegan foods daily. They always served a hot meal consisting of a whole grain, some type of bean dish and lots of vegetables, including a green. Also, vegan soups & a salad bar, not to mention the many bean and vegetable dishes in a cold-foods deli section. All the food is made on the premises by nice people.
When you eat the way I do and you find a place like this, it feels like you're in heaven (I'm not kidding!), or ... that at least that someone is watching out for you! I called before I arrived in Tampa to see if it still existed. Though the store changed owners several months ago, they said the food is still the same. I found that to be true ...
I went there for lunch today and the food is still great. My nephew Will was with me, so we got our meals and took them outside to eat. I got the couscous, a black-eyed pea soup, some oven-roasted root vegetables and collard greens sauteed in olive oil with garlic. It was absolutely heavenly. Cynthia, the woman who served our meal, was helpful and very pleasant. It was so delicious ... good food and good energy. A perfect combination.
I'm staying at a hotel that has a kitchenette, so I picked up a few staples to do some cooking, but I'm sure I'll be back to Rollin' Oats for lunch every day this week. What a godsend this place is! If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend it!
