Restaurant Spotlight: Thirsty Bernie

Posted Sep 03 2013 11:33am

Ok, you know those nights when you’re in the mood for a really juicy burger? Or maybe just a beer, some sports, and a great atmosphere to enjoy it all in. Well, Thirsty Bernie Sports Bar & Grill in Arlington is all that and more. According to their website, Thirsty Bernie is a neighborhood grill that dedicates itself to crafting their own meats and breads using only the best ingredients. They pride themselves on searching for the world’s best beers, and serving up quality food to the neighborhoods familiar faces.

Now, it’s not located near a metro, and is situated randomly at the end of a strip mall, but it’s the best kept secret I’ve found in the area. I’ve been there 3 or 4 times and never once had a bad meal. Steady service, food, and drinks, in a clean and up beat sports bar setting.

I try to write honest reviews, but a lot of times my reviews favor the restaurants because I’ll like the restaurant so much that I want to write about them. This is one of them. Ryan introduced me to this place, and we would go there when we needed a last minute dinner or just a chill night out, and we were never disappointed.

The first time I went I built my own burger after hearing how great the burgers were. All their burgers are made fresh to order using Certified Angus Beef. It was so incredibly juicy and had the best flavor-I was in total heaven. The last time I visited we ordered the Korean Short Ribs as an appetizer, which were served with a side of coleslaw. And for my entree I ordered Chipotle Roast Beef Wrap with a side of sweet potato fries.

I can’t believe I forgot to mention the sweet potato fries. These are ridiculously addictive, crispy, and well seasoned. They are served with a delicious sauce that I can’t quite put my finger one, but seems to be similar to a Russian or Thousand island dressing.

The wrap itself was grilled and warm with sauteed peppers and onions and Horseradish dill cheese for a little kick, and a really nice chipotle mayo. Everything was outstanding, and just writing this post is making me want to go back for more. Check it out for yourself if you’re ever in the area and in the mood for upscale bar food. And they serve brunch!
