Research Your Restaurant.
If you're going out to eat it's a pain to find the company website and search out the nutritional information. I found one website where you can find a lot of the same information in one place. A lady named Dotti has compiled information from 559 restaurants. She lists complete information for some and just the low carb and low fat on others. I use it a lot because I'm a lot less likely to eat a Frito Chili Pie from Sonic if I know it has almost 1,000 calories. Just go to http://www.dwlz.com/restaurants.html to find out the scoop on most of your favorite restaurants.
