Red & Blue State Eats

Posted Sep 28 2008 12:00am

Friday night while torrential rain dumped down on Boston my friends and I gathered inside for a Presidential Debate party.  I’d been looking forward to this party for weeks, even though in the days leading up to the debate it was unclear if it would happen at all.  Thankfully despite economic turmoil the show went on.  The stars of the night, however, weren’t Obama or McCain, but a spread of red and blue state inspired food.  Unfortunately I was rushing to get everything done by the time my guests arrived so I didn’t have a chance to snap photos of the food, but the menu was as follows:

  • Black-Eyed Pea Hummus
  • Wisconsin Beer & Cheddar Fondue w/ various dippers (i.e. fingerling potatoes, cornichons, apple slices, kielbasa, etc.)
  • Biscuits and Gravy w/ Vegetarian Sausage (made by a co-worker)
  • Martha’s One Bowl Chocolate Cupcakes w/ Dark Chocolate frosting and patriotic gum paste toppers (pictured above)
Everything was very delicious and I was especially impressed with the cupcakes.  They were rich and chocolately and so sinful.  I have a feeling they will become one of my regulars.  Hope everyone had a great weekend.
