Raw-ness

Posted Jun 10 2009 6:43pm
So I wanted to spend a little time commenting on the way I've been eating lately. As stated, I have been trying to go a little more "quasi"tarian. I am currently trying to get most of my protein from eggs, fish, whey and vegitarian options. I am limiting the amount of meat I'm eating dramatically to see how it affects me. I've been keeping my chicken intake at a frequency of at most once per week and red meat at once per month-ish. I've also been trying to go more raw in general. Some of the merits of eating raw and points made by raw-foodists are interesting to me and I wanted to give it a try. So far I've simply been trying to incorporate more raw food into my diet but not completely getting rid of cooked food specifically.

Now for the results! I have tons of energy, even more than I used to! I feel completely satisfied after meals, but not usually overly full. I find eating fresh foods helps me to regulate the exact amount I need very easily. I feel lighter overall, and far less bloated or full-feeling than I used to. I have noticed a positive change in my body and in my recovery ability between workouts. I am now working out harder than ever and my body is handling it swimmingly. I don't know if I will ever completely give up meat or cooking my food (likely I won't), but I will keep this up for sure. I am incredibly stoked with the results so far! I really do think fish has a better effect on my body for sure, but that may not be the case for everyone. This works well for me personally, but you should choose what works best for you. It will most likely take lots of experimenting and tweaking to find out. I consider nutrition to be a constantly evolving prospect, and, while I love the way I'm feeling by eating this way, I'm sure I will continue to experiment and make small changes to find improvements.

Now that I'm done blabbing at you, it is time for the food and exercise!! This morning I woke up to my usual breakfast slushie, but I used slightly different foods today. I had tons of kale (it is starting to get wilty so I gotta use it up), frozen mango, frozen papaya, frozen strawberries, water and a splash of milk. Threw the usual ground flax, vanilla protein and
granolaon top. This time I threw in a few raisins too.

Post breakfast, we took the doggies for a quick walk, then it was off to the gym. Today I did upper body. I did one circuit through all of the exercises listed with the rep count in the 8-10 range, then I did 10 mins on the fat burning circuit of the stair climber at a very challenging level. Then another circuit, followed by another 10 mins on the stair climber (the aerobic circuit this time), then one more circuit followed by 10 mins of hills on the bike.

Man was I sweaty and exhausted after that. I'm really excited though, since I'm gonna try out zumba for the first time this evening! I've heard great reviews and I'll let you know how it goes!

At work my 8am snack was some overnight oats. I gotta get back to making them green again, I keep forgetting! Today I added some flax, chocolate protein powder and added berries, cherries and mango. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Don't you love my pretty new tupperware! Target is my love, this was a set of 10 that was only like 15 bucks. Sweeet!

See you guys tonight!!
