Protein Shakes and Power Hour

Posted Oct 30 2010 12:00am
Good Morning and Happy Saturday!

I hope everyone had a great week and are now enjoying the Halloween Weekend.  We have lots of fun plans for Halloween and hope to be able to follow through on them but Zoe woke up with a sore throat and I am hoping she starts feeling better so she can participate in the fun.

So I have been experimenting with protein shakes and think I have finally found a product that I am absolutely crazy about.  It is amazing what you can find in your kitchen when you actually organize your pantry.  I was working on my organizational skills yesterday (quite challenging for me) and found some packets of BSN Dessert Protein Shake.  I had run to Mount Tabor yesterday and did the "step" workout and was in need of a quick protein packed lunch.  Low and behold, I had a packet of BSN Lean Dessert Protein Shake in Banana Cream Pudding.  I was a bit skeptical because this would either taste really good or really NOT so good.  I pulled out my handy Cuisinart Smart Stick blender and made the BEST protein shake I have ever had (not counting my sister Sarah's chocolate Enduroplex shake made with frozen yogurt).

Banana Cream Pudding Shake

1 packet BSN Lean Dessert Banana Cream Pudding Protein  (130 calories)1 banana (105 calories)1 cup Unsweetened Almond Breeze Vanilla Milk (40 calories)
Total calories-- 275 and 20 grams of protein
Add above ingredients in large cup and then blend with Cuisinart Smart Stick until thick and creamy.
Enjoy!
This was so freaking good.  I was worried that the banana taste would be icky but instead it was delightful and the shake did not BLOAT me either.  This stuff if awesome!
I made another shake this week that pretty much made me feel sick the rest of the day and super duper bloated and I think maybe it was the soy protein powder.  I am not sure if it was the the protein powder, or the maca or salba but let's just say I was sick and my stomach was super distended and bloated.

Mango Maca Soy Protein Shake
2 scoops Vanilla Soy Protein1 tsp Maca Powder1 tbsp Salba3/4 cup frozen Mango1 cup water
Add above ingredients in large cup and then blend with Cuisinart Smart Stick.
This shake tasted great but I am not sure that soy and I are friends.  I really was super bloated after drinking this and wondered if any of you have had this issue before?  Maybe I was just having a bad day?
Anyways, I have few more packets of the BSN Lean Dessert Protein and can't wait to try Chocolate Coconut Candy Bar flavor!!  I will let you know what I think.
So today I started of the morning with an awesome bowl of Superfoods!  I made a bowl of Red Quinoa topped with Goldenberries and Cacao Nibs.  These are all superfoods and I am feeling the effects.

Power Hour Breakfast
1/4 cup red quinoa (cooked according to package)1/2 cup water1 tbsp Goldenberries1 tsp Cacao Nibs1 tbsp sliced almondsdrizzle of honey
Cook quinoa according to package and then top with the following superfoods:
GoldenberriesCacoa NibsAlmonds
Drizzle with honey and getting ready to have some ENERGY!
I feel great and think this is a great way to start your morning.
I love routine but feel that it is important to get out of your comfort zone and shake things up a bit so I have been stepping out a bit and trying new things.  This week I tried Zumba class for the first time and can not stop laughing at my inability to shake my hips.  I am not a dancer and am a bit self-concious but in the spirit of change I tried out this class and have to say that it was super fun.  I am glad that I am able to laugh at myself and even though I felt silly at times the energy of the class and the people were fantastic.  It was a huge class and the music was fun.  I will try it again soon.
The other thing that has been taking me out of my comfort zone is my Wellcoaches classes.  I am loving this training and am so excited to become a Wellness Coach.  We are learning so much about positive psychology and the work of Martin Seligman who wrote Authentic Happiness.  Participating in class is huge and sharing with others can sometimes be uncomfortable but I am learning so much by being fully engaged in the class and working on my own gratitude journal.
I have more to report but my sick child needs me so I am off for now.
