Portion Size is Important!

Changing your lifestyle can be very confusing at first. This handy portion guide can help anyone with food confusion:

Grains and Starches

Portion Size: an amount up to the size of your fist

How many a day? 6-12 servings

Meat and Alternatives

Portion Size: an amount up to the size of the palm of your hand and the thickness of your little finger

How many a day? 2-3 servings

Vegetables

Portion Size: as much as you can hold in both hands

How many a day? 5-10 servings

Fats

Portion Size: LIMIT fat to the amount of the size of your thumb

How many a day? 2-5 tablespoons

Milk and Alternatives: Drink up to 250 mL (8 oz) of low fat milk with a meal.
