Pineapple Lime Green Smoothie

Posted Jan 26 2013 2:18am

Its day 3 of our healing whole foods detox cleanse! I’m so excited to share our detox cleanse with all of you and I hope that doing it will help you start on the path to vibrant health and wellness! Pineapple Lime Green Smoothie is the third green smoothie recipe of our 5 day healing whole foods detox cleanse. This wonderful green smoothie should be enjoyed for both breakfast and a mid-afternoon snack.

Pineapple Lime Green Smoothie is one of my favorite green smoothies! This green smoothie is a delectable blend of pineapple, romaine lettuce, lime juice, hemp seeds, and coconut milk. This alkalinizing smoothie blend is a rich source of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, protein, chlorophyll, phytochemicals, and fiber which will help detox and rejuvenate your body.

Green smoothies health benefits are many including providing your body with a boost of energy, key nutrients, hydration, and fiber that is easy for you to digest and use for healing and rejuvenation. To find out more detailed information on the benefits of green smoothies check out my post .

Pineapple

Pineapple is an enzyme-rich fruit that contains bromelain which has many health benefits. Bromelain is a potent digestive aid that helps to break down protein. Pineapple can also help reduce chronic inflammation in our body. Pineapples are a good source of vitamin A, B vitamins, vitamin C, potassium, and magnesium. Pineapple’s sweet flavor pairs perfectly with the lime juice and romaine.

Romaine Lettuce

Romaine lettuce is a fantastic leafy green to use in green smoothies. Its mild flavor is a great introduction into drinking greens and it blends well with fruits. Romaine is a alkaline green that is very hydrating to the body due to its high water content. Romaine lettuce is also rich in nutrients including vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, iron, folate, potassium, chlorophyll, fiber, and phytochemicals. All of these nutrients help strengthen your immune system and protect your body against disease.

Coconut Milk

Coconut and its milk have so many health benefits that I could go on and on but I will say that one of the most important health benefits of coconut is that is contains lauric and capric acid which are important medium chain fatty acids. These medium chain fatty acids have potent anti-microbial and anti-viral properties which will protect and strengthen your immune system. Medium chain fatty acids are also used by our body for energy rather than being stored as fat.

Hemp Seeds

Hemp seeds are one of the best plant-based sources of protein available with all the essential amino acids that your body needs. Hemp is also a great source of fiber, chlorophyll, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, along with the idea balance of essential fatty acids omega-3 and omega-6 in a 3.75:1 ratio. 3 tablespoons of hemp seeds contain 10 grams of easy to digest plant protein.

Limes

Limes share many of the same health benefits of lemons and are a excellent alkalinizing food to include in a detox cleanse. Limes are a powerful detoxifier that is high in vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, and calcium that all work together to neutralize free radicals, support the liver, remove inflammation, and fight diseases like cancer.

I used fresh pineapple in this smoothie which I cut into cubes and placed in airtight containers in the freezer. I like using frozen fruit in my smoothies to make them cold and creamy but feel free to use fresh pineapple cubes without freezing if you like.
