Being that I took a 6+ month blogging hiatus this year – I thought it would be best if I did a 2012 highlight post. Feel free to roll your eyes and groan – I know, I know – ANOTHER 2012 recap post. But hey – it’s really more for my own gratification so go ahead and groan on.
We moved into Island Club apartments in Columbus – a nice complex in the Dublin suburb – within walking distance of KROGER – THE GREATEST GROCERY STORE ON EARTH. Our apartment was right on the property’s lake – and the duckies drove the dogs INSANE.
Our first weekend in the new apartment I ended up in the emergency room with a terrible kidney infection. Not my idea of a good time. But I did get some drugs out of it – so that was okay.
We spent our weekends exploring Columbus and hitting up old college favorites of ours – like Pita Pit !
I turned 30 and had a wonderful birthday party with my closest friends and family at Battery Park Wine Bar . By far my favorite birthday to date!
I left American Greetings after 4 wonderful years and started a new job. Very scary but very worth it. 9 months later and I couldn’t be happier I made the leap.
Things got crazy and for Mike’s birthday – we jumped out of a plane. Skydiving is something we have ALWAYS wanted to do and so we finally got up the courage and booked our jump. Mike and I both agree – we can’t OFFICIALLY say that it was the best day of our lives because that should be our wedding – right? (but it TOTALLY WAS the best day of our lives)
We attended Dublin Irish Festival thanks to tickets given to us by one of Mike’s friends. It was just about 100 degrees with no breeze – but we had some of the best seats in the house – with access to free booze and food in the Emerald Club.
We discovered the greatest treasure that belongs to Columbus – Dirty Franks . And quite frankly (get it?! ) – it puts CLE HotDog-eries to shame (yes – hotdogery is a word I just made). If you live in Columbus and have not been there – get. there. now.
We discovered Powell Village Winery – which not only had wonderful ambience but fantastic wine & service. I highly recommend Buckeye Nation and Jam’N’Jelly.
We moved out of our quiet little Columbus apartment 3 months earlier than expected (originally through January 2013 – but Mike’s contracted ended early – mid-September). It was bittersweet because I did come to love the city and our place down there was great – but I was so happy to have Mike coming home!
Since we thought we had a few more months to explore Columbus – we crammed 3 months worth of exploring into 3 days. The highlights:
We took our only vacation of the year with my family – it was so nice to have all 6 of us together. We rented a fabulous cabin in the Smoky Mountains and spent time hiking the trails (Chimney Top & Le Conte) and exploring downtown Gatlinburg.
Mike and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary. Neither of us can believe it’s been 5 years – it seems like just yesterday we were having the party of our lives with our closest friends and families. What a great 5 years it’s been!
I finally got to check out the Cleveland casino and then spent the night out on the town with my Mom, Aunt, and cousin. And I even won a few bucks!
I finished my 2012 Winking Lizard Tour of Beers – wooohooo!
Having access to Tim Horton’s coffee, Giant Eagle Market District (rumor has it one is coming to Strongsville) and Kroger grocery stores in Columbus was just the greatest. Why CAN’T we have these three things in CLE?
Lando and Harvey traveled more miles this year than they have in their previous 4 years on this earth lives combined. While harden road-warriors – they never grew to like the car. Lando screeched incessantly for the whole two hours down while Harv would just stare creepily and sadly at me from the back seat.
That’s about it! With less than 2 days left in the year – I’m not expecting anything else crazy to happen. And the one thing I do know is that I’m looking forward to a hopefully very BORING, very normal 2013. Happy New Year friends!
