Because you know how sometimes you know things…but even though you know them, you don’t really put them into practice? Like, I know I should floss everyday to add years onto my life even though my teeth are lucky if they meet the minty string more than once a week. I swear, I am starting that everyday floss thing today. But seriously, life is busy and things are crazy and the world seems so uncontrollable and showering goes out the window. Consider this a reminder.
A reminder that being yourself is the only thing to be. Even if you feel like that version of you is slightly crazy and neurotic and likes watching reality TV a little too much.
A reminder that free concerts in your city make for great Wednesday night relaxation.
(Who knows who will see you taking pictures for your blog there?)
A reminder that I must stay positive …even when it seems so hard amidst the negativity.
A reminder that no, I cannot afford clothes from Anthropologie or eating out or anything remotely frivolous while still in the beginning stages of freelance. It’s called money management . It’s also called reality.
A reminder that no one should ever settle. Fight for who + what you want. Or write a letter about it.
A reminder that summer is coming to a close, so it’s the perfect time to make popsicles .
A reminder that Happyolks is a gorgeous blog to read AND cook from. This Cherry Lentil Fennel Salad was light and delicious paired with a summery glass of chardonnay.
A reminder that cherries are in-season. Sweet, rich red orbs that are demanding to be eaten. Eat seasonally . Bonus points: eat locally too.
2 bars high-quality dark chocolate (at least 60% cacao)
1 lb. fresh cherries
coarse sea salt, for garnish
First, temper the chocolate. Serious Eats has a great tutorial here .
Meanwhile, wash your cherries and pat them dry. Dip each cherry into the chocolate, swirling around for maximum coverage, and place on a sheet of parchment paper. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt before the chocolate hardens.
* * * * *A special thank you to Whole Foods Madison for sponsoring my cherry feast, the manfriend for attending my cherry feast and the Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra for playing at my cherry feast. And by cherry feast, I clearly mean Concerts on the Square .
