Now Serving: Nature’s Sensation Chicken from Allen Family Foods

Posted Feb 17 2011 10:00am

Eat a plate of our chicken, and you’ll taste the difference in quality immediately. Pump customers often remark that our chicken tastes fresher and more flavorful than other places. When they ask us why it tastes better, we say: “Because we source the highest quality birds.” It’s as simple as that.

Fresh ingredients = superior taste. We apply this sourcing philosophy across our entire menu–from our grass-fed bison to the herbs we use in our marinades. We have high standards because we know you have the same. As such, we are constantly improving our menu to give you the best we can.

This week, for example, we’ll start serving Nature’s Sensation Chicken from Allen Family Foods at all of our restaurants. It’s raised locally (less than 200 miles from New York City in Delaware), and it’s ABF this is fancy talk for “antibiotic-free.” Allen’s is a family-run business that’s been around for 90 years, and they run their operation with experience, integrity and a healthy respect for the environment. Chef Danny took a trip out to Delaware last week to tour the farms and facilities and meet the folks that take care of the birds. Good people.

Allen’s will be replacing our current Murray’s Chicken (also ABF), which has been on our menu for over a year now. The biggest difference between the two brands is that Allen’s chickens are grown and prepared for market at one location from birth to sale whereas Murray’s, buys chickens from local farms and then processes and markets the chicken themselves. This isn’t bad per se – it’s actually quite common in the poultry business. In fact, it is quite likely that at a point in time in the future, we will again work with Murray’s (and other premium chicken brands) as we continue to grow our business and require larger quantities of ABF chicken. That being said, we do believe that given the option, the more control a producer has over the entire process (from birth to sale), the better – for everyone.

Nature’s Sensation Chicken is 100% ABF, the highest quality ranking assigned to poultry. Antibiotics are never administered to the chickens at any stage of their growth cycle.

These chickens live in spacious, environmentally-controlled houses that allow lots of space for them to roam. As a result, they are less stressed and suffer from fewer health issues than conventionally raised chickens. No health issues = no need for drugs = happy, healthy birds.

These chickens are grown on family farms dedicated to preserving the environment. The farm is powered by non-polluting solar panels, a project that was undertaken in collaboration with the University of Delaware.

So that’s the latest food gossip here at Pump.

As always, let us know if you have any feedback, comments or questions.
