Happy Halloween, friends! Mal and I started our celebration a day early with a small get-together at our house.
I baked festive fall cookies.
Using my favorite sugar cookie recipe from Mama Pea’s cookbook and some colorful leaf-shaped sprinkles.
Mal made Pigs in a Blanket, but he used kielbasa instead of hot dogs. Good call, Mal.
Unfortunately for , Mal didn’t drop any kielbasa on the floor while making them.
Right before our friends arrived, Mal and I decorated our house with some spider webs from the dollar store. (I know, we go all out for Halloween.)
I should have known that paying a $1 for Halloween decorations wasn’t a great idea. The spider webs were terrible!
Instead of pulling apart into webs, they broke into clumps.
Umm…
Eventually, we sort of got the hang of it. We just needed to be really gentle.
Oooh, spooky!
A little while later, our friends, John and Alexa , arrived at our house. Mal and John planned to watch the Pats game, and Alexa and I planned to drink wine and talk about pugs. She loves pugs (and wine) as much as I do!
On the menu: Kielbasa Pigs in a Blanket and Taco Dip.
And, later, two kinds of sugar cookies with frosting.
Alexa made sugar cookies with frosting, too. Great minds think alike!
Last night was a fun way to celebrate Halloween. I used to love dressing up for rowdy house parties, but sitting on the couch with friends and eating sugar cookies was so much better. (Man, I am such a grandma.) Murphy also loves Halloween, especially the costumes .
Breakfast
This morning’s breakfast was Oats in a Jar with a big scoop of canned pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice mixed in. Obviously, I needed to hit up the pumpkin today.
My iced coffee tasted almost like Marylou’s Almond Joy iced coffee. I added chocolate soy milk and a tiny amount of coconut extract to it. It’s not as sweet as Marylou’s, but it’s pretty close to the real deal. I’m still working on it.
Oats in a Jar = pug creeper .
I eventually gave Murphy the peanut butter jar to lick.
Nicole Richie’s Halloween Plea
Have you guys heard about Nicole Richie’s Halloween plea yet? According to US Weekly , Nicole wrote this plea on her Facebook page: “Girls, can we all pledge that we will not dress slutty for this Halloween? The jig is up.”
When I first heard about Nicole’s plea, I was all about it. Right on, Nicole. Let’s band together and not dress slutty on Halloween. But, then, the more I thought about it, the more I disagreed with it. I mean, as a grown woman, shouldn’t I have the right to dress any way that I want? I actually don’t have the desire to dress up as a ‘slutty’ whatever on Halloween, but if I did, shouldn’t I do what makes me happy?
Question of the Day
What do you think about Nicole Richie’s Halloween plea?
P.S. I saw this Squash Prep School article in Real Simple the other day and thought it might be helpful. It shows you how to peel, seed, and slice various types of squash.
