My secret formula for weight loss!

Guess what those items have in common?  Those are the things I lived on for a major part of my life.  Why did I consume those foods so much?  Because they were “low fat,” of course, and marketed as “healthy.”  The only thing I was concerned about was whether an item was low fat.  I thought I was making healthy choices by doing that.  Yes, their marketing worked on me.  “Low fat” was “healthy” in my world.   

So, after years of eating that way, what did it get me?  Well, it didn’t get me healthy, I can tell you that!  I was tired, stressed out, and getting sick all the time.  I even got Shingles, on my forehead, for the whole world to see.  My body was worn out and depleted of any nutrition. 

The problem with all of those foods marketed as healthy, low fat foods is that they are loaded with preservatives, chemicals, artificial sweeteners, and other yucky stuff.  High fructose corn syrup abounds and it’s highly addictive.  So, the more you eat, the more you want.   And, you don’t get any nutrition, so your body is starving for nourishment…which makes you think you need to eat more!  It’s a vicious cycle.  And, definitely not good for someone wanting to lose weight.

Let me give you the secret formula for a healthy (and happy) lifestyle which contributes weight loss. 

Now, a caveat to this is that people are in all different stages in life.  Hormones affect weight loss.  Stress affects weight loss.  So, you have to keep those things in mind.  Don’t get frustrated if you don’t lose weight as fast as your neighbor down the street.  And, here’s a big tip.  Take the focus off weight.  People obsess about weight.  Stop that!  Stop focusing on weight and instead focus on bringing your body back into balance (mind/body/spirit) through proper nourishment and the weight will begin to come off, secondarily.   

 Ok.  Here’s the formula:


Daily clean Eating + Daily PLAY time + Daily stress management + Daily hydration = weight loss.


You’ll notice I say daily for everything!  Consistency is key.  Daily action is key.  If you have a long way to go on your weight loss or health journey, it can feel overwhelming.  So, focus on each day as it comes. 

Clean eating means enjoying lots of the good stuff God has put on this planet for you to enjoy, in its most natural, SIMPLE form.   Leafy greens, fruits, veggies, etc.  These are nutrient-rich foods that actually FEED your body and make you feel satisfied.  When you feel nourished, you will lose the urge to eat all the time.

Daily PLAY time is daily physical activity.  In my community and with my clients, we don’t exercise, we PLAY!  I tell my clients to find something they will love to do for physical activity…something that feels like PLAY, so they will do it consistently.

Daily stress management is huge.  We live in a fast-paced, stressed out society.  If we don’t practice daily stress reduction, you are doing a huge disservice to your body.  Being stressed all the time releases a hormone called cortisol.  Too much of this hormone in your body all the time will keep weight on your waist.  So, daily stress management is imperative.  Also, this means looking at how each area of your life is affecting your overall well being (career, relationships, environment, spiritual).  Are those areas nourishing your being, or are they stressing you out.  How’s your relationship with God?  A close relationship to Him is a fantastic way to help reduce stress.

Daily hydration means getting lots of pure, fresh water on a daily basis.  Challenge yourself to drink only water for a week.  See how much better you feel.  People have a tendency to drink their calories in the form of high-sugar, high-caffeine drinks.  No good for your body.  It’s amazing how many different instances of illness can be alleviated if we would just stay hydrated. 

So, there you have it.  The secret formula for a healthy lifestyle…which leads to weight loss.  Beyond this, there are superfoods, herbs, essential oils, and spices that all support metabolism, reduce inflammation, and promote weight loss…but that’s for another post!
